Evaluation of quality and varietal origin of piscos by solid phase micro-extraction (SPME) and gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC-MS)

About the project

This work developed a standardized quick method for the qualitative evaluation of the varietal origin of piscos, using solid phase micro-extraction (SPME). SPME experimental conditions -such as fiber coating chemistry, extraction mode, fiber exposure time, sample dilution, and presence or absence of salts- were optimized on the gas phase volatiles yield (headspace). A complete characterization by mass spectrometry (MS) of components observed in gas chromatography (GC) was carried out by the SPME-GC-MS methodology. In addition, a chemo metric testing of different pisco varieties was performed. They were differentiated based on the content of relevant aromatic compounds.
