Supply chain management model for the Northern Region of Lima, as a proactive measure to mitigate impact of natural disasters due to the Coastal El Niño

About the project

It was part of the Penn State Seed Funds – PUCP – UNI. This research proposed creating a researcher network devoted to studying the crisis generated by the coastal El Niño. It proposed an efficient and effective humanitarian supply chain management model to mitigate the effects of coastal El Niño; and also, to harness satellite technology and / or drones to diagnose risk spots in the selected research area.

One of the most affected areas in the northern part of Lima, the capital city, was identified, based on secondary information from INDECI. Drones were used to develop susceptibility maps as a basis for proposing mitigation and preparedness plans, based on the use of applied mathematics to optimize humanitarian logistics, in the face of future events.
